World Book Day 7th March 2019
Year 2 came dressed for bed on World Book Day. Rather than go to sleep we went to the local library to listen to a story about dogs and learn a poem off by heart too! We also shared books with our friends in Year 5.
Y2 and Y5 visited the Yorkshire Wildlife Park last week. We had a fantastic day spotting lots of wild animals including the elusive leopard!
To finish off our topic on Africa Year 2 held a Kenyan day today. Some children made Kenyan banana bread which the children had with some mango juice.
We made Masai jewellery and Kenyan flags today. We also learnt a call and response song that is sung in Kenya and Tanzania called Kye Kye Kule ( pronounced chay chay kule). Have a go at it when you listen to the song below!
As part of our Science unit on Materials year 2 investigated which type of paper is the most absorbent. They tested four different types of paper – writing paper, newspaper, paper towels and kitchen roll.
Look at the photos to find out how the children carried out the investigation.
Most children found the paper towel was the most absorbent.

Children in Need Friday 16th November 2018
All the children looked brilliantly spotty in their children in need clothes.

Our class raised £27. Well done everyone!
W/b 12th November Anti-bullying week
All the class have pledged to chose respect and treat everybody in school with kindness.
8th November 2018 History Subject Day
It is a 100 years since the end of World War 1. In remembrance, all the children did work on this subject to remember this special day.
Year 2 answered the question why do soldiers wear medals and the children all made their own medal. Here they are wearing them.
5th November 2018
These two children wrote a fantastic senses firework poem. Read it below.
I can see bursting fireworks in the darkness.
I can smell the heat of the hot dogs in the darkness.
I can taste the soft marshmallows in my mouth.
I can hear a crashing bonfire in the darkness.
I can see twinkling fireworks in the dark night.
I can hear children clapping in the dark night.
I can smell smoky fireworks in the dark night.
I can taste delicious hot dogs in the dark night.
I can feel my cosy soft coat.
If you didn’t make it to our Harvest assembly or you would just like to listen to our song again click below.
Trip to Morrisons 8.10.18
On Monday year 2 walked up to Morrisons. We have been learning about the five food groups and went to Morrisons to look at the fruit available there and to taste some unusual fruit. We tasted pineapple, coconut, pomegranate seeds, mango and watermelon.
Have a look at the photographs below to see what Year 2 have been getting up to in their Forest Schools sessions. (den building, apple crumble making, making and flying kites).
Our first session today.
The children explored the garden looking for creatures, picked and tasted the apples and drew a picture on fabric of their favourite part of the session. These pieces of fabric will be sewn together to make a hanging.
Year 2 is the last year in Key Stage 1.
Our aim is to make sure everyone achieves their very best, and has fun along the way!
