We will be serving this on Thursday 5th November. If your child is currently on packed lunches and would like to have a Bonfire lunch in school, please let the office know. You can pay via Parent Pay or alternatively send £1.90 into school on the day in a named envelope (children in KS2)
School closes today for half term and re-opens on Monday 2nd November
Our new Reception children have done their first full week and we are really proud of how well they have settled into Thorpe. It has been very different for the children returning to school but we have been impressed with their resilience and how they have taken things in their stride and quickly adapted to the changes.
I would like to thank all the staff who despite everything that has been going on have remained positive and smiling. In challenging circumstances, they have given up break times and lunchtimes in order to help us run the school under the Covid – 19 ‘bubble rules’, re-organised timetables to fit in with the staggered times throughout the day, organised the many handwashing/hand gel procedures whilst continuing to teach and care for your children. Thank you to them all and I hope they manage to get a well-deserved break over half term.
We know that it hasn’t been easy for anyone so thank you to all of our families for your support and understanding with the staggered drop off and pick up times and for following the social distancing procedures. These will continue for the foreseeable future as will the ‘bubble rule’.
Breakfast and After school club
Following a review of updated DfE guidance, the school’s risk assessments and health and safety procedures as well as taking into consideration the physical limitations of the school, staff shortages and the impact of the building work, the Governors have made the decision that breakfast and after school club will not open next half term. Once again, this decision has not been taken lightly but many factors have had to be considered in the context of our school.
Please note that school will be closed on Monday 30th November for a training day.
To celebrate Remembrance Day this year, we would like each child to bring a pebble into school on Monday 9th November. Each child will hand paint their own pebble in school. The pebbles will then be sent home for the children to either put in their garden or leave at a local memorial. Children may want to research their family history to see if any family member served in the armed forces during WW1 so that they can put their name on the back of the pebble.
In line with the ‘bubble rules’, clubs will be for one year group at a time. We will ensure that each year group has an opportunity to attend a club throughout the year. If the DfE guidance changes then we will review this arrangement. Next half term there will be clubs for Year 1 and Year 5.
Please can we ask that you ensure your child has their PE kit in school after half term.
As has been previously communicated, due to the current situation we cannot lend spare kit. If your child does not have their kit in school, they will not be able to participate in the lesson
- White t-shirt with the Thorpe logo or a plain white t-shirt
- Navy shorts/joggers
- Black pumps or trainers
Please can we remind you that only small stud earrings can be worn in school.
Whole School Flu Immunisations
The immunisation team will be in school on Tuesday 17th November as part of the annual programme to vaccinate children against influenza. Only children whose parents have given consent will be vaccinated.
