Newsletter September 2020

Welcome Back

It is lovely to finally have the children back! They have done so well in following the new procedures. Thank-you for following the social distancing procedures when dropping off and collecting children and for all your continued support.

Staffing news

After 18 years Mrs Graveson will be leaving us on October 2nd to relocate to warmer climates in the south of England. She will be greatly missed – who will lead Feliz Navidad now?!!

Mrs Stephanie Clayton has been appointed as our new Administrator. She will be in school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will then start full time on 28th September.

Mrs Wood (Nursery Nurse in Y1) will be retiring at October half term. She has been at Thorpe for 17 years and, again, will be greatly missed. We hope she’ll pop in from time to time to help with the garden.

We also welcome Mrs Kim Charlesworth to our lunchtime staff team.

General information with new procedures

Hand sanitiser is available in the main reception area for the use of visitors, including parents. Only one parent at a time will be able to enter the office area and will be required to wear a mask.

Any monies to be handed over must be placed in an envelope, sealed and placed in a tray before being passed to a member of the office team

Pupils who are late to school are to access through the main entrance area.

COVID Testing

If your child has symptoms they should not come to school and will have to self-isolate for at least 10 days and you should arrange for them to have a test.  If your child develops symptoms at school, we will ring you to collect them so that you can take them home to self-isolate and arrange a test. Other members of their household including siblings should self-isolate for 14 days from when the symptomatic person first had their symptons. No child will be tested by staff in school. If you or your child has had a test for COVID,  we will require a copy of the letter stating that the test results were negative.

We understand that many parents have experienced problems and it has been incredibly frustrating when ordering and purchasing uniform from Whittakers (previously Henry Smith’s) in Shipley. The Uniform Shop is our other supplier and we are looking to have this shop as our sole supplier.

Please can we remind everyone that school shoes/trainers should be plain black. Children must have a PE kit in school to be able to participate as we are unable to lend spare PE kits. Only children who are returning to Y5 and then moving into Y6 can bring school bags. All other year groups need to use a school book bag.

Flu vaccination

You will have received a letter and form from Bradford’s Immunisation Team regarding the annual flu vaccination. If you wish your child to have the vaccine, you will need to complete the consent form. If you do not want your child to have this vaccine, you will still need to return the form, stating the reason why. Your child will not be vaccinated if parental consent has not been given.

Weekly Achievements

At present we will not be holding our weekly Honours assembly. However we want to continue to celebrate individual children’s achievements. For this half term, two children will be selected from each class to receive a special certificate. They will be named on the weekly newsletter and their photos put on the school’s Twitter account.

Jeans for Genes Day

Once again we will be taking part in this year’s Jeans for Genes Day on Friday 18th September.

1 in 25 children has a genetic disorder that makes their life very difficult. That’s like one in every class. By wearing our jeans and donating, we will help to change the lives of these children.

All children and staff are invited to wear their jeans/something denim on Friday 18th September. School uniform polos and jumpers are to be worn. We’d like everyone to take part so please encourage your child to come into school on the day wearing their jeans and with a 50p donation per child.

If you’d like to find out more about how our support will help, please visit their website at jeansforgenes.org
